A living poster concept for an exhibition of James Turrell and his work. *The file is as lost as that last “l”
A living poster for an imagined showcase for artist James Turrell. The project was made to feel like his work while promoting the upcoming gallery event.

Artist Statement
“Turrell's work lies at the intersection of two ideas: that art can be made with non-traditional materials, and that an artwork might be an idea or an experience, as opposed to a thing.”

Initial explorations on the compositions of the poster and what could be done with the various works he's created. The questions at this phase were, "does this feel like his work?," "is it visually interesting?," and "does the composition lend itself to type clarity.
The goal was to build the scene similarly to how James Turrell would build his scenes physically. It tooks some research and some understanding on how light works to reproduce the effect James achieved.
Testing typography within the camera to see how it played with the light. After some experimentation the course of action leaned away from extruded 3D type to 2D.
Things to Work Through
Previous Iteration
The initial idea was to have it feel like the light was breathing. It presented less difficulties but it didn't reflect the work so it was scraped.
How the Light Moves
Using point level animation to move the light blocking shapes and stitching the seams together in after effects to create an infinitely looping animation that feels like a James Turrell piece.
